We, the Foundation Friends of Hertenkamp Het Groene Hart, took over the reins from the former board members last year (2019). We are proud to announce that Virgil Limon has become the new chairman and Dave Visser has taken over the role of treasurer. We hope to further expand our board in 2020/2021.
The foundation has three main goals:
Social Campsite De Vest
A campsite run by clients with a distance to the labor market or intellectual disabilities. These clients learn to interact with various guests and perform tasks such as mowing the lawn, cleaning, welcoming guests, and guiding them to their spots.
The Heemtuin
A biological garden maintained by people with a distance to the labor market and/or intellectual disabilities. It is free to visit and used by local primary schools for educational purposes related to nature, animals, and insects.
The Hertenkamp
A petting zoo in Enkhuizen run by people with a distance to the labor market and/or intellectual disabilities. They care for the animals, keep the grounds clean, and perform various tasks. The Hertenkamp is free to visit and is a local icon.
All three locations are in the city center of Enkhuizen, near the city wall—hence the name of the campsite.
2019
The board took over in 2019 but has not yet actively raised funds. However, many individuals and groups have volunteered countless hours to help make everything as beautiful as it is today. The board has decided to perform all tasks voluntarily and will not receive any compensation.
Despite not raising funds in 2019, we donated €450 to the Hertenkamp for a new chicken coop.
Status: (09-2020)
At the time of writing, discussions were held about adopting the llamas at the Hertenkamp, which are too expensive to maintain. The local SP party asked if we, together with potential sponsors from Enkhuizen, would be willing to adopt them. A follow-up meeting is planned for autumn.
In July, we received wood to build a herb garden at the campsite, where guests can pick fresh mint, basil, and other herbs. We are looking for a skilled carpenter to help build it with the clients, and sponsors for seeds.
